History of PRRS Risk Assessment Development

History of Development

  • Mid-2003: Design and development of the PRRS Risk Assessment was done at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica – work began in mid-2003.  PRRS Risk Assessment was initially designed using Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).

  • March 2005: Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica offered to gift the tool to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV)

  • March 2006: AASV, with support from National Pork Board (NPB) accepted the gift

  • September 2006: Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Supply Veterinary Medicine entered into an agreement with AASV to establish the Production Animal Disease Risk Assessment Program (PADRAP) to develop, manage and promote disease risk assessment tools and databases of completed risk assessments held by AASV

  • November 2007: Launch of web application

 

 

Major Milestones Reached

  • * Launch of growing PRRS Risk Assessment for the growing pig. Launch date: March 2009

  • * AASV PADRAP Advisory Committee created: February 2008

  • * Developed and implemented on-line training program for web version of PADRAP: January 2008

  • * Launch of web version of PADRAP (www.padrap.org): November 2007

  • * Obtained funding to develop PRRS risk assessment for grow-finish herds: November 2007

  • * Obtained funding to develop version 3 of the PRRS risk assessment for the breeding herd: November 2007
